16 U.S.C. § 407 — Establishment; description of area

This section renames a protected area and makes it a national park. Before May 14, 1930, the land was called Carlsbad Cave National Monument. It had been set up as a national monument by a 1906 law called "An Act for the preservation of American antiquities," and by a presidential proclamation on October 25, 1923. This section declares that land a national park instead. It dedicates the park as a public park for the benefit and enjoyment of the people. The park's new name is Carlsbad Caverns National Park. Under its new name, the park is entitled to receive and use all money that Congress had appropriated, or would later appropriate, for the old Carlsbad Cave National Monument. So renaming the site does not cut off its funding.
