16 U.S.C. § 460jj — Establishment

(a) In general. This section establishes the Arapaho National Recreation Area: about 35,235 acres of land in Grand County, Colorado, within the Arapaho and Roosevelt National Forests and the Colorado Big Thompson project, shown as the "Arapaho National Recreation Area" on a map titled "Indian Peaks Wilderness Area and Arapaho National Recreation Area," dated May 2007. (b) Administration. The Secretary must manage the Arapaho National Recreation Area under the laws and regulations that apply to national forests, in whatever way best provides for: (1) public recreation and enjoyment; (2) conserving and developing the area's scenic, natural, historic, and pastoral values; (3) managing, using, and disposing of natural resources such as timber, grazing, and minerals, so that using them will not substantially harm the purposes for which the recreation area is established; and (4) managing water quality in the recreation area consistent with developing needed water supply and wastewater systems, including controlling aquatic vegetation in the area's streams, lakes, and reservoirs. (c) Management plan. The Secretary must develop an overall management plan for the Arapaho National Recreation Area, in consultation with state and local political subdivisions and other interested people.
