18 U.S.C. § 503 — Postmarking stamps

This law makes it a federal crime to fake a postmark. It covers several related acts. First, forging or counterfeiting a postmarking stamp, or an impression made by one, if you intend to make it look like a real, genuine postmark. Second, making, knowingly using, or selling a forged or counterfeited postmarking stamp, die, plate, or engraving — or an impression made from one. Third, simply possessing any of those forged or counterfeited items, if you intend to use or sell them. A "postmarking stamp" is the tool used to stamp mail with a postmark — the mark showing where and when a piece of mail was processed. Anyone who does any of these things can be fined under this title, or imprisoned for up to five years, or both. The law does not state the fine amount here — it points to the general fine rules found elsewhere in this title.
