3 U.S.C. § 402Application of laws

submitted 30 years ago by Pub. L. 104-331 to r/title-3-THE-PRESIDENT · 127 words · no verdicts yet

in plain englishAI-generated · not legal advice

This law applies eleven major federal employment laws to certain congressional "employing offices." These include wage, anti-discrimination, family leave, workplace safety, and veterans' employment laws, among others. The law only lists which statutes apply — it doesn't restate what each one requires.

This section lists eleven federal laws and says all of them apply to "employing offices" as this chapter defines that term — including, to the extent that section 411 says so, employing offices covered by section 411. The eleven laws are: (1) the Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938; (2) Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964; (3) the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990; (4) the Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967; (5) the Family and Medical Leave Act of 1993; (6) the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970; (7) chapter 71 of title 5, which this section describes as relating to federal service labor-management relations; (8) the Employee Polygraph Protection Act of 1988; (9) the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act; (10) the Rehabilitation Act of 1973; and (11) chapter 43 of title 38, which this section describes as relating to veterans' employment and reemployment. The section itself does not explain what any of these eleven laws require — it only says that each one applies to the employing offices covered by this chapter.
