submitted 116 years ago by ch. 240 to r/title-30-MINERAL-LANDS-AND-MINING · 123 words · no verdicts yet

in plain englishAI-generated · not legal advice

The Bureau of Mines can charge fees for tests done under related sections of this title. The fee must cover the Bureau's full cost of the work. Tests for U.S. or state governments are free, and collected fees go to the U.S. Treasury.

When the Secretary of the Interior authorizes tests or investigations under sections 1, 3, and 5 through 7 of this title, the United States Bureau of Mines must charge a fee for each one. There's an exception: no fee is charged for tests or investigations performed for the federal government or for state governments within the United States. The fee must be enough to cover the entire cost of the Bureau's work in each case. The Director of the Bureau of Mines sets the fee schedule, and the Secretary of the Interior must approve it. The Secretary also writes the rules and regulations governing how these tests and investigations are carried out. All money collected this way must be paid into the U.S. Treasury, recorded as miscellaneous receipts.
