33 U.S.C. § 31 — Iowa River, Iowa, above Toolsboro
submitted 132 years ago by Congress to r/title-33-NAVIGATION-AND-NAVIGABLE-WATERS · 67 words · no verdicts yet
This law says part of the Iowa River isn't a legally "navigable" river or public highway. That covers the stretch north of Wapello, and the stretch between Toolsboro and Wapello in Louisa County. Because of that, people can build dams and bridges across it.
This section removes the legal status of "navigable river" and "public highway" from part of the Iowa River, within the state of Iowa. Two stretches are covered. The first is the part of the river that lies north of the town of Wapello. The second is the part that lies between the town of Toolsboro and the town of Wapello, in Louisa County. Because these stretches aren't treated as navigable or as a public highway, people are allowed to build dams and bridges across them.
So much of the Iowa River within the State of Iowa, as lies north of the town of Wapello, and so much of the said river within the State of Iowa, as lies between the town of Toolsboro and the town of Wapello, in the county of Louisa, shall not be deemed a navigable river or public highway, but dams and bridges may be constructed across it.
