38 U.S.C. § 1720B — Respite care

The Secretary may provide limited, intermittent in-home respite care to enrolled veterans with chronic illness so they can continue living mainly at home. The Secretary may use contracts.
(a) The Secretary* may provide respite-care services to a veteran* enrolled to receive care under section 1710 of this title.
(b) “Respite care services” means care and services that: (1) last for a limited time; (2) are provided intermittently to a veteran with a chronic illness who mainly lives at home; and (3) are provided to help the veteran continue mainly living at home. This section does not otherwise define “respite care services.”
(c) The Secretary may make contracts to provide respite-care services.
The Secretary* may furnish respite care services to a veteran* who is enrolled to receive care under section 1710 of this title.
For the purpose of this section, the term “respite care services” means care and services which—
are of limited duration;
are furnished on an intermittent basis to a veteran who is suffering from a chronic illness and who resides primarily at home; and
are furnished for the purpose of helping the veteran to continue residing primarily at home.
In furnishing respite care services, the Secretary may enter into contract arrangements.
