38 U.S.C. § 7673 — Scholarship

(a) Scholarship: A scholarship for a school year pays the participant's tuition (or the portion allowed under (b)) plus other reasonable education expenses for that year, including fees, books, and lab expenses. (b) Amounts: The total scholarship under (a): (1) for a full-time student, can't be more than $10,000 for the equivalent of one year of full-time coursework; and (2) for a part-time student, is scaled down in the same ratio that their actual coursework bears to full-time coursework in the same program. (c) Limitations on Period of Payment: (1) A participant can receive a scholarship for at most six school years. (2) A participant can't receive more than the equivalent of three years of full-time coursework in scholarships. (d) Payment of Educational Expenses by Educational Institutions: The Secretary may arrange with the participant's school to pay these expenses directly, without following the usual rules in 31 U.S.C. § 3324(a) and (b). (e) Full-Time Coursework: For this section, full-time coursework means: (1) 30 semester hours per year of undergraduate coursework; and (2) 18 semester hours per year of graduate coursework.
