submitted 34 years ago by Pub. L. 102-486 to r/title-42-THE-PUBLIC-HEALTH-AND-WELFARE · 189 words · no verdicts yet

in plain englishAI-generated · not legal advice

Starting by January 1, 1994, the Secretary must seek voluntary commitments from fuel suppliers, owners of 10 or more motor vehicles, and suppliers of alternative-fueled vehicles. The commitments concern making fuels and vehicles available, using them, and providing related services in enough volume to meet the section's stated goals and any fleet requirement program. The Secretary must report on the efforts and make the commitments public, subject to protections for trade secrets and confidential business and financial information.

By January 1, 1994, and continuing after that, the Secretary must work to get voluntary commitments from three groups, spread across geographically diverse regions of the country: (1) fuel suppliers, who should agree to make replacement fuels available to the public, including building or providing the delivery systems needed to distribute them; (2) owners of 10 or more motor vehicles, who should agree to acquire and use alternative-fuel vehicles and alternative fuels; and (3) suppliers of alternative-fuel vehicles, who should agree to make those vehicles available to the public and make sure related services are available too. These commitments need to add up to enough volume to reach the goals described in section 13252(b)(2) of this title, or the goals as changed under section 13254 of this title, and to satisfy any fleet requirement program set up by rule under this subchapter. The Secretary must periodically report to Congress on how these efforts are going. All the voluntary commitments obtained under this section must be made available to the public, except for anything protected under the law covering trade secrets and confidential business and financial information, including section 1905 of title 18.
