42 U.S.C. § 17083 — Public outreach

This section requires the Commercial Director and Federal Director, coordinating with the Consortium, to carry out public outreach that informs individuals and entities about the information and services available governmentwide. They must: (1) establish and maintain a national high-performance green building clearinghouse, including online, that (A) identifies existing similar efforts and coordinates activities of common interest, and (B) provides information on high-performance green buildings, including links to sites describing the activities, information, and resources of the federal government, state and local governments, the private sector (including nongovernmental and nonprofit entities), and international organizations; (2) identify and recommend educational resources for putting high-performance green building practices into effect, including security and emergency benefits and practices; (3) provide access to technical assistance, tools, and resources for constructing high-performance green buildings, particularly tools for life-cycle costing and life-cycle assessment; (4) provide information on the application process for certifying a high-performance green building, including certification and commissioning; (5) have the Commercial Director provide the public with technical and research information, or other useful assistance or advice, for planning and constructing high-performance green buildings; (6) use whatever additional outreach methods the Commercial Director determines are appropriate; (7) survey existing research and studies on high-performance green buildings; and (8) coordinate activities of common interest.
