Every vessel subject to this part needs an initial certification inspection before service. Passenger and certain other vessels must then be inspected yearly; other vessels must be inspected at least every five years.
Each vessel* subject to inspection under this part must receive an initial certification inspection before entering service. After entering service: (1) each passenger vessel, nautical school vessel, and small passenger vessel permitted to carry more than 12 passengers on a foreign voyage must be inspected at least once each year; and (2) every other vessel must be inspected at least once every 5 years.
Each vessel* subject to inspection under this part shall undergo an initial inspection for certification before being put into service. After being put into service—
each passenger vessel, nautical school vessel, and small passenger vessel allowed to carry more than 12 passengers on a foreign voyage shall be inspected at least once a year; and
any other vessel shall be inspected at least once every 5 years.
