49 U.S.C. § 6105 — Implementation of best practices guidelines

(a) The Secretary^* of Transportation must encourage States, one-call programs, excavators—including government and contract excavators—and underground-facility operators to adopt and use the periodically updated practices in the report “Common Ground.” (b) The Secretary must provide technical assistance to and participate in programs sponsored by a nonprofit formed specifically to reduce construction damage to underground facilities. (c)(1) The Secretary may grant money to that nonprofit. (2) In addition to section 6107 amounts, $500,000 is authorized for each fiscal year 2003 through 2006, remaining available until spent. (3) Those grants must come from general revenues, not amounts collected under section 60301.
