in plain englishAI-generated · not legal advice

An alien age 14 or older who has not been registered and fingerprinted and remains in the United States for at least 30 days must apply to register and be fingerprinted before the 30 days end. Parents or legal guardians must register younger aliens under the stated conditions, and the Attorney General may waive fingerprinting for nonimmigrants based on reciprocity.

(a) Every alien who is now or later in the United States must apply for registration and fingerprinting before 30 days end if the alien: (1) is at least 14; (2) has not been registered and fingerprinted under section 1201(b) of this title or sections 30 or 31 of the Alien Registration Act, 1940; and (3) remains in the United States for 30 days or more.

(b) A parent or legal guardian of an alien who is now or later in the United States must apply to register that alien before 30 days end if the alien: (1) is under 14; (2) has not been registered under section 1201(b) of this title or sections 30 or 31 of the Alien Registration Act, 1940; and (3) remains in the United States for 30 days or more. When an alien turns 14 while in the United States, the alien must, within the next 30 days, apply in person for registration and fingerprinting.

(c) The Attorney General may, using discretion and reciprocal treatment under regulations the Attorney General issues, waive the fingerprinting requirement in subsections (a) and (b) for a nonimmigrant.
