The National Archives gets official notice when a new constitutional amendment is adopted. The Archivist of the United States must then publish it right away. The Archivist's certificate must list the states that approved it and confirm it is valid.

This section tells the Archivist of the United States what to do when a constitutional amendment is adopted. First, the National Archives and Records Administration must receive official notice that a proposed amendment to the U.S. Constitution has been adopted, following the process the Constitution itself sets out. Once that happens, the Archivist must immediately publish the amendment. The Archivist must attach a certificate to the publication. That certificate has to name the states that adopted the amendment and state that the amendment has become valid as a real part of the Constitution, for all purposes.
