This section preserves specified State laws about garnishment and firing employees.
This subchapter does not cancel, change, or affect State laws, and does not excuse anyone from following them, when those laws: (1) prohibit garnishment* or allow less garnishment than this subchapter; or (2) prohibit firing an employee because the employee’s earnings* have been garnished for more than one debt.
This subchapter does not annul, alter, or affect, or exempt any person from complying with, the laws of any State
prohibiting garnishments or providing for more limited garnishment* than are allowed under this subchapter, or
prohibiting the discharge of any employee by reason of the fact that his earnings* have been subjected to garnishment for more than one indebtedness.
