15 U.S.C. § 231 — Standard barrel for apples; steel barrels

The standard barrel for apples must have these measurements, taken without stretching any part of the barrel: the stave (side board) must be 28.5 inches long; the head (the flat end) must be 17.125 inches across; the distance between the two heads must be 26 inches; and the barrel's outside circumference at its widest point (the "bulge") must be 64 inches. Together, these measurements come out to about 7,056 cubic inches of space inside. Steel barrels count as meeting this standard as long as their inside measurements match these same numbers.
