15 U.S.C. § 290a — Definitions

This section defines two terms used throughout this chapter. "Standard reference data" means data that fits one of four descriptions, and that has also been critically evaluated for reliability under section 290b of this title. The data can be quantitative information about a measurable physical, chemical, or biological property of a substance, or of a system made of substances with known composition and structure. It can be a measurable characteristic of a physical object or objects. It can be an engineering property or performance characteristic of a system. Or it can be one or more digital data objects used either to calibrate or characterize how well a detection or measurement system performs, or to interpolate or extrapolate other reference data described in this definition. "Secretary" means the Secretary of Commerce.
