16 U.S.C. § 117dForfeiture of property used for unlawful purpose

submitted 98 years ago by ch. 434 to r/title-16-CONSERVATION · 136 words · no verdicts yet

in plain englishAI-generated · not legal advice

This law lets park officers seize guns, traps, and vehicles used for illegal hunting in the park. These items can be held while the owner faces charges under this Act. If convicted, the person forfeits the property as an added penalty.

If someone uses a gun, trap, team of horses, or any other means of transportation inside the park to kill, trap, snare, or capture wild animals or birds illegally, park officers can seize that property. Officers may hold the seized property while the person is being prosecuted for violating this Act. If that person is convicted, the seized property is forfeited to the United States. This forfeiture happens in addition to whatever other punishment the person receives - it doesn't replace it. The Secretary of the Interior decides how forfeited property is disposed of and kept track of.
