The Secretary of the Interior can give surplus elk, buffalo, bear, and beaver from Yellowstone to federal, state, county, or city zoos and parks. The Secretary can also sell surplus buffalo, with the money going to the U.S. Treasury.
This section lets the Secretary of the Interior manage surplus wildlife from Yellowstone National Park. At the Secretary's discretion, and under regulations the Secretary sets, the Secretary can give surplus elk, buffalo, bear, beaver, and predatory animals from the park to federal, state, county, and municipal authorities, for use in wildlife preserves, zoos, zoological gardens, and parks.
The Secretary may also sell or otherwise dispose of surplus buffalo from the Yellowstone herd specifically. Any money received from selling surplus buffalo must be deposited in the U.S. Treasury as miscellaneous receipts.
The Secretary of the Interior is authorized, in his discretion and under regulations to be prescribed by him, to give surplus elk, buffalo, bear, beaver, and predatory animals inhabiting Yellowstone National Park to Federal, State, county, and municipal authorities for preserves, zoos, zoological gardens, and parks. He may sell or otherwise dispose of the surplus buffalo of the Yellowstone National Park herd, and all moneys received from the sale of any such surplus buffalo shall be deposited in the Treasury of the United States as miscellaneous receipts.
