16 U.S.C. § 396c — Land acquisition; authorization of appropriations

Despite other land-acquisition limits, the Secretary of the Interior can add land on Maui to Haleakala National Park, within a specific mapped area, by donation, purchase, or exchange. The map is on file for public viewing at the National Park Service. Congress authorized up to $920,000 for this.
(a) Even though other sections of this title (391b, 391b-1, 392b, 392c, 396, and 396a) place limits on land acquisition, the Secretary of the Interior may still acquire land on the island of Maui for Haleakala National Park, as long as the land falls within the boundaries shown on a specific map — "Haleakala National Park, Segment 03," numbered 162-30,000-G and dated May 1972. The Secretary can get this land by donation, by purchase using donated or appropriated money, or by exchange. This map must be kept on file and available for the public to inspect at National Park Service offices.
(b) Congress authorized up to $920,000 in appropriations to carry out this section.
Notwithstanding any limitations on land acquisition as provided by sections 391b, 391b–1, 392b, 392c, 396, and 396a of this title, the Secretary of the Interior may acquire for addition to the park any land on the island of Maui within the boundaries of the area generally depicted on the map entitled “Haleakala̅ National Park, Segment 03,” numbered 162–30,000–G, and dated May 1972, by donation, purchase with donated or appropriated funds, or exchange. The map shall be on file and available for public inspection in the offices of the National Park Service, Department of the Interior.
There is authorized to be appropriated such sums but not to exceed $920,000 as may be necessary to carry out the purposes of this section.
