The Secretary of the Interior can trade a specific piece of park land — about 15,650 square feet on South Fifth Street — to Philadelphia's Redevelopment Authority, for other land of roughly equal value that the Secretary needs for the park. The traded-away land stops being part of the park, and the new land takes its place.
This section lets the Secretary swap a specific park parcel for other useful land.
The Secretary of the Interior may convey, on behalf of the United States, a specific tract of about 15,650 square feet — part of Independence National Historical Park's "project B," at the northeast corner of South Fifth Street and Marshall Court, plus any buildings on it. This goes to the Redevelopment Authority of the City of Philadelphia, in exchange for property of about equal value that the Secretary decides is needed for the park.
Once this trade happens, the land given away stops being part of the park, and the land received becomes part of the park instead, subject to all the same laws and rules that apply to the rest of the park.
The Secretary of the Interior is authorized to convey on behalf of the United States a certain tract of land, or any interest therein, being a portion of Independence National Historical Park project B, embracing fifteen thousand six hundred and fifty square feet, more or less, and situate on the northeast corner of South Fifth Street and Marshall Court (formerly Manning Street), city of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, together with the improvements thereon, to the Redevelopment Authority of the City of Philadelphia in exchange for property, or interest therein, owned by the authority of approximately equal value and which the Secretary deems necessary for use in connection with the Independence National Historical Park. Property conveyed by the Secretary pursuant to this section shall thereupon cease to be a part of the park, and the property acquired in exchange therefor shall thereafter be a part of the park, subject to all the laws and regulations applicable to the park.
