This section creates the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area in southern Nevada, covering about 195,780 acres, to protect its geologic, wildlife, and other resources. It requires the Secretary to file an official map and legal description of the boundaries. If the map, acreage figure, and legal description ever disagree, the map wins.

(a) In general (1) This section creates the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area in southern Nevada. The goal is to protect the geologic, archeological, ecological, cultural, scenic, scientific, wildlife, riparian, wilderness, endangered species, and recreation resources on the public land there, for people now and in the future. (2) The conservation area covers about 195,780 acres, shown on a map called "Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area Administrative Boundary Modification," dated August 8, 1996. It also includes any additional areas added under the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area Protection and Enhancement Act of 2002. (3) The public can inspect that map at the Bureau of Land Management offices. (b) Legal description (1) As soon as possible after November 16, 1990, the Secretary had to file a legal description of the conservation area with the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources and the House Committee on Interior and Insular Affairs. That description counts as if it were written into this law, except the Secretary may fix clerical and typing errors in it. (2) The public can inspect that legal description at the office of the Director of the Bureau of Land Management. (c) Discrepancies If the map, the stated acreage, and the filed legal description ever disagree about the boundaries, the map controls.
