Soon after this law passed, the Secretary had to send Congress official maps and land descriptions for six different areas at Steens Mountain. These maps count as if written directly into the law, though the Secretary can fix small typos. Copies stay open for public viewing at Bureau of Land Management offices.
(a) Preparation and submission. As soon as reasonably possible after October 30, 2000, the Secretary* had to prepare and send Congress maps and legal descriptions covering six things: (1) the Cooperative Management and Protection Area*; (2) the Wilderness Area*; (3) the wild and scenic river segments and the redband trout reserve*, designated by part C; (4) the mineral withdrawal area, designated by part D; (5) the wildlands juniper management area, established by part E; and (6) the land exchanges required by part F.
(b) Legal effect and correction. These maps and descriptions carry the same legal weight as if they were written directly into this subchapter. The only thing the Secretary can change afterward is a clerical or typographical error.
(c) Public availability. Copies of the maps and descriptions must stay on file and open for public inspection at two places: the Office of the Director of the Bureau of Land Management, and the appropriate Bureau of Land Management office in Oregon.
As soon as practicable after October 30, 2000, the Secretary* shall prepare and submit to Congress maps and legal descriptions of the following:
The Cooperative Management and Protection Area*.
The Wilderness Area*.
The wild and scenic river segments and redband trout reserve* designated by part C.
The mineral withdrawal area designated by part D.
The wildlands juniper management area established by part E.
The land exchanges required by part F.
The maps and legal descriptions referred to in subsection (a) shall have the same force and effect as if included in this subchapter, except the Secretary may correct clerical and typographical errors in such maps and legal descriptions.
Copies of the maps and legal descriptions referred to in subsection (a) shall be on file and available for public inspection in the Office of the Director of the Bureau of Land Management and in the appropriate office of the Bureau of Land Management in the State of Oregon.
