16 U.S.C. § 460ww–5 — Advisory Committee

(a) Establishment: This section creates the Gauley River National Recreation Area Advisory Committee. It has 15 members, appointed by the Secretary for two-year terms. A member can keep serving past the end of their term until someone replaces them, and members can be reappointed for more than one term. The Secretary, or someone the Secretary picks, serves as Chairman. (b) Management and development issues: The Secretary, or a designee, must meet regularly with the Advisory Committee and consult it on building and carrying out a management plan for the recreation area. (c) Expenses: Committee members don't get paid for their service, but the Secretary may reimburse reasonable expenses they incur doing committee work, using vouchers the Chairman signs. (d) Membership: The Secretary appoints these 15 members: one representing other federal agencies that manage land affected by the recreation area, picked from that agency's nominees; two representing West Virginia's Department of Natural Resources, from the Governor's nominees; one representing the state's Department of Commerce, also from the Governor's nominees; three representing the commercial whitewater rafting industry in West Virginia; one representing noncommercial whitewater boating groups; one representing conservation groups in West Virginia; one representing people involved in game fishing in West Virginia; one representing the Nicholas County Chamber of Commerce; one representing the Fayette County Chamber of Commerce; one representing people who use Summersville Lake for recreation; and two representing local citizens or citizen groups connected to the Gauley River or who own land within the recreation area. (e) Termination; charter: The Advisory Committee automatically ends ten years after October 26, 1988, even though a general law about advisory committees (chapter 10 of title 5) might otherwise apply differently. A specific charter requirement in section 1013(b) of title 5 doesn't apply to this committee.
