16 U.S.C. § 460x–3 — Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore Advisory Commission

(a) Establishment; termination: This section creates the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore Advisory Commission. It automatically stops existing twenty years after the lakeshore was established under section 460x–1 of this title. (b) Membership; appointment; term of office: The Commission has ten members, each appointed by the Secretary for a two-year term. Four members come from recommendations made by the two counties where the lakeshore sits — two from each county. Four members come from recommendations made by the Governor of Michigan. The remaining two members are chosen directly by the Secretary. (c) Chairman; vacancies: The Secretary picks one member to be Chairman. If a seat becomes vacant, it's filled the same way the original appointment was made. (d) Compensation and expenses; vouchers: Commission members don't get paid for serving. The Secretary may reimburse expenses members reasonably run up doing Commission work, paid out using vouchers the Chairman signs. (e) Consultation of Secretary with Commission: The Secretary, or someone the Secretary picks, must consult the Commission on two kinds of matters: developing the lakeshore, including issues covered by sections 460x–8, 460x–11, and 460x–12 of this title; and carrying out the General Management Plan required by section 460x–5(b) of this title.
