16 U.S.C. § 479 — Sites for schools and churches

Settlers living inside a national forest, or nearby, can build and run schools and churches there. To do this, they can use part of the national forest land. The limit is two acres for each schoolhouse and one acre for each church.
Settlers who live within the outer boundaries of a national forest, or nearby, are allowed to maintain schools and churches inside that national forest.
For that purpose, they may use part of the national forest land — up to two acres for each schoolhouse, and up to one acre for each church.
The settlers residing within the exterior boundaries of national forests, or in the vicinity thereof, may maintain schools and churches within such national forest, and for that purpose may occupy any part of the said national forest, not exceeding two acres for each schoolhouse and one acre for a church.
