16 U.S.C. § 539e — Reports

(a) Timber supply and demand in southeastern Alaska The Secretary must track timber supply and demand in southeastern Alaska and report on it every year to the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources and the House Committee on Natural Resources. (b) Status of Tongass National Forest in southeastern Alaska; contents Starting five years after December 2, 1980, and every two years after that, the Secretary must review and report to Congress on the status of the Tongass National Forest in southeastern Alaska. This report must cover at least: (1) timber harvest levels in the forest since December 2, 1980; (2) how wilderness designation has affected the timber, fishing, and tourism industries in southeast Alaska; (3) steps the Forest Service has taken to protect fish and wildlife in the forest; (4) the status of the small-business set-aside program in the Tongass Forest; and (5) how timber management has affected subsistence resources, wildlife, and fisheries habitat. (c) Cooperation and consultation This study must be done in cooperation and consultation with the State of Alaska, affected Native Corporations, the southeast Alaska timber industry, the Southeast Alaska Conservation Council, the southeast Alaska commercial fishing industry, and the Alaska Land Use Council.
