16 U.S.C. § 539j — Bowen Gulch Protection Area

(a) Establishment This section creates the Bowen Gulch Protection Area in the Arapaho National Forest, Colorado, covering about 11,600 acres, shown as "Area A" on a map called "Bowen Gulch Additions to Never Summer Wilderness Proposal," dated January 1993. (b) Administration The Secretary manages the area under this section and the laws and regulations generally applying to the National Forest System. (c) Withdrawal Subject to valid existing rights, all land in the area is withdrawn from all forms of entry, appropriation, or disposal under public land laws; from being claimed under mining laws; and from mineral and geothermal leasing, including any related amendments. (d) Development No developed campgrounds may be built in the area. After August 13, 1993, no new roads or trails may be built there either. (e) Timber harvesting No timber harvesting is allowed in the area, except to the extent it would be allowed in a wilderness area under section 1133(d)(1) of this title — for necessary control of fire, insects, and disease, or for public safety. (f) Motorized travel Motorized travel is allowed in the area only on designated trails and routes that existed as of July 1, 1991, and only when there's enough snow cover. At all other times, only mechanized, non-motorized travel (like mountain biking) is allowed. (g) Management plan While revising the Land and Resource Management Plan for the Arapaho National Forest, the Forest Service must develop a management plan for the protection area, after taking public comment.
