16 U.S.C. § 580h — Range improvements from appropriated funds

Of the money the Treasury receives from grazing fees from each national forest during each fiscal year, an amount must be available at the end of that fiscal year when Congress appropriates it. The amount must equal 2 cents for each animal-month of sheep and goats and 10 cents for each animal-month of other livestock that was under permit on that national forest during the calendar year in which the fiscal year begins. The appropriated amount must remain available until it is spent on that national forest, under regulations the Secretary of Agriculture may prescribe, for: (1) artificial revegetation, including collecting or buying necessary seed; (2) building and maintaining drift or division fences and places where livestock can get water, bridges, corrals, driveways, and other necessary range improvements; (3) controlling rodents that destroy the range; or (4) eliminating poisonous plants and harmful weeds, to protect or improve the range’s future productivity.
