18 U.S.C. § 1547 — Alternative imprisonment maximum for certain offenses

This section sets alternative maximum prison terms for certain offenses under this chapter. It does not apply to an offense under section 1545.
Despite any other rule in this title, the maximum prison term for an offense under this chapter, other than an offense under section 1545, is: (1) 15 years if the offense was committed to help carry out a drug-trafficking crime, as “drug trafficking crime” is defined in 929(a); or (2) 20 years if it was committed to help carry out an act of international terrorism, as “international terrorism” is defined in section 2331.
Notwithstanding any other provision of this title, the maximum term of imprisonment that may be imposed for an offense under this chapter (other than an offense under section 1545)—
if committed to facilitate a drug trafficking crime (as defined in 929(a)) is 15 years; and
if committed to facilitate an act of international terrorism (as defined in section 2331) is 20 years.
