18 U.S.C. § 1838 — Construction with other laws

This chapter preserves other federal, State, commonwealth, possession, and territorial remedies for trade-secret misappropriation. It also preserves otherwise lawful disclosures by government employees under the Freedom of Information Act.
Except as section 1833(b) provides, this chapter does not replace or take away any other civil or criminal remedy under United States federal, State, commonwealth, possession, or territory law for misappropriating a trade secret*. It also does not affect a government employee’s otherwise lawful disclosure of information under 5 U.S.C. 552, commonly called the Freedom of Information Act.
Except as provided in section 1833(b), this chapter shall not be construed to preempt or displace any other remedies, whether civil or criminal, provided by United States Federal, State, commonwealth, possession, or territory law for the misappropriation* of a trade secret*, or to affect the otherwise lawful disclosure of information by any Government employee under section 552 of title 5 (commonly known as the Freedom of Information Act).
