2 U.S.C. § 181 — Program for exchange of information among legislative branch agencies

(a) Starting September 16, 1996, there is a program for the widest possible exchange of information among legislative branch agencies, with the long-term goal of improving how they plan and evaluate information technology. The House Committee on House Oversight and the Senate Committee on Rules and Administration are asked to decide how the program is structured and run, and to oversee it. All the legislative-branch offices and agencies listed below must take part in this information-sharing program, and must report each year, in their budget requests to the House and Senate Appropriations Committees, on how much and in what way they participated. (b) In this section: (1) "Offices and agencies of the legislative branch" means the office of the Clerk of the House, the office of the Secretary of the Senate, the office of the Architect of the Capitol, the Government Accountability Office, the Government Publishing Office, the Library of Congress, the Congressional Research Service, the Congressional Budget Office, the Chief Administrative Officer of the House, and the Sergeant at Arms of the Senate. (2) "Technology" means any kind of computer hardware and software; computer-based systems, services, and support for creating, processing, exchanging, and delivering information; and telecommunications systems and their related hardware and software, for voice, data, or image communication.
