2 U.S.C. § 4123 — Authority of Attending Physician in response to medical contingencies or public health emergencies at Capitol

(a) In general. The Attending Physician to Congress has authority and responsibility to oversee and coordinate medical assets responding to a bioterrorism event or other medical contingency or public-health emergency in the Capitol Buildings or on the United States Capitol Grounds. This includes authority to impose quarantine and declare death. The Physician must act closely and communicate with the District of Columbia Commissioner of Public Health, Chief Medical Examiner, and other public-health officials. (b) Definitions. (1) “Capitol Buildings” has the meaning in title 40 section 5101. This section does not define it. (2) “United States Capitol Grounds” has the meaning in title 40 section 5102(a). This section does not define it. (c) Effective date. Subsection (a) took effect January 23, 2004, and applies during every fiscal year occurring on or after that date.
