2 U.S.C. § 5549 — House Intern Resource Office

(a) Establishment; Coordinator (1) Establishment; Coordinator The House Intern Resource Office is established in the Office of the Chief Administrative Officer of the House of Representatives. This section refers to it as the “Office.” (2) Appointment The House Intern Resource Coordinator heads the Office. This section refers to that person as the “Coordinator.” The Chief Administrative Officer must employ the Coordinator in consultation with the chair and ranking minority member of the Committee on House Administration. (b) Duties After consulting the Office of Diversity and Inclusion and any other offices the Coordinator considers appropriate, the Office must— (1) provide support services, such as accommodations, training, and professional development, to interns in House of Representatives offices; (2) be a center for resources and best practices for how House of Representatives offices recruit, hire, train, and use interns; and (3) collect demographic and other information about interns in House of Representatives offices. (c) Addressing inequities in access to internships When carrying out its duties, the Office must consider unequal access to internships in House of Representatives offices. It must also consider whether it is workable to establish a stipend program for interns from underrepresented backgrounds. This includes interns who attend Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), Tribal Colleges and Universities, Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs), and other Minority Serving Institutions described in section 1067q(a) of title 20. (d) Authorization of appropriations Congress may provide whatever amounts are needed for fiscal year 2023 and each later fiscal year to carry out this section. (e) Effective date This section applies to fiscal year 2023 and each later fiscal year.
