20 U.S.C. § 1720 — Definitions

For this subchapter: (a) “Educational agency” means a local educational agency or a “State educational agency” as section 801(k) of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 defines it. This section does not otherwise define “State educational agency.” (b) “Local educational agency” means a local educational agency as section 801(f) of that Act defines it. This section does not otherwise define “local educational agency.” (c) “Segregation” means operating a school system in which students are wholly or substantially separated among an educational agency's schools because of race, color, sex, or national origin, or separated within a school because of race, color, or national origin. (d) “Desegregation” means desegregation as section 2000c(b) of title 42 defines it. This section does not otherwise define “desegregation.” (e) An educational agency is considered to transport a student if the agency pays any part of the student's transportation cost.
