The Secretary may give grants to eligible entities to develop and run American government and civics seminars for elementary and secondary teachers and other educators working with minority and Native American students. Grants must be geographically distributed widely, and specified amounts are authorized for fiscal years 1995 through 1998.
(a) Grants authorized. (1) The Secretary may give grants to eligible entities to develop and carry out American government and civics seminars for elementary and secondary school teachers and other educators working with minority and Native American students. (2) When awarding grants, the Secretary must ensure wide geographic distribution.
(b) Authorization of appropriations. Congress authorizes $5,000,000 for fiscal year 1995 and whatever amounts are necessary for fiscal years 1996, 1997, and 1998 to carry out this subchapter.
The Secretary is authorized to make grants to eligible entities for the development and implementation of seminars in American government and civics for elementary and secondary school teachers and other educators who work with minority and Native American students.
In awarding grants under this subchapter, the Secretary shall ensure that there is wide geographic distribution of such grants.
There are authorized to be appropriated $5,000,000 for fiscal 1995, and such sums as may be necessary for each of the fiscal years 1996, 1997, and 1998, to carry out this subchapter.
