This chapter defines “arms control,” “disarmament,” and “Government agency.” The first two terms cover international efforts to identify, verify, inspect, limit, control, reduce, or eliminate armed forces and armaments and build peace institutions.
As used in this chapter—
(a) “Arms control” and “disarmament” mean identifying, verifying, inspecting, limiting, controlling, reducing, or eliminating armed forces and all kinds of armaments under an international agreement. They also include steps under that agreement to create an effective international control system or create and strengthen peacekeeping international organizations. This section does not separately define any other quoted term.
(b) “Government agency” means an executive department, commission, agency, independent establishment, corporation wholly or partly owned by the United States that is a United States instrumentality, or any board, bureau, division, service, office, officer, authority, administration, or other executive-branch establishment.
As used in this chapter—
The terms “arms control” and “disarmament” mean the identification, verification, inspection, limitation, control, reduction, or elimination, of armed forces and armaments of all kinds under international agreement including the necessary steps taken under such an agreement to establish an effective system of international control, or to create and strengthen international organizations for the maintenance of peace.
The term “Government agency” means any executive department, commission, agency, independent establishment, corporation wholly or partly owned by the United States which is an instrumentality of the United States, or any board, bureau, division, service, office, officer, authority, administration, or other establishment in the executive branch of Government.
