22 U.S.C. § 4352 — Responsibility for preparation of FRUS series

(a) (1) (A) The State Department Historian^* is responsible for preparing the FRUS series, including selecting records, under this chapter. (B) The Advisory Committee^* must review records and advise and recommend to the Historian on every part of preparing and publishing the series, including reviewing and selecting records under section 4353. (2) Other federal departments, agencies, and entities must cooperate with the Historian's Office by giving complete access to records relevant to United States foreign-policy decisions and actions and copies of selected records under section 4353 procedures. They need not provide access to, or copies of, a record^* prepared less than 20 years before the Historian's Office requests it.

(b) Regardless of other provisions of this chapter, the National Archives and Records Administration's duty to give the State Department access to and copies of records for FRUS is governed by title 44, chapter 21; agreements between the Department and Archives; and, for Presidential records, 44 U.S.C. 2204.
