25 U.S.C. § 1667d — Use of predoctoral psychology and psychiatry interns

This section directs the Secretary to encourage providers serving Indian communities to use predoctoral psychology and psychiatry interns. The goals are to serve more patients and help recruit and retain providers.
The Secretary* shall carry out such activities as the Secretary determines to be necessary to encourage Indian tribes, tribal organizations, and other mental health care providers to obtain the services of predoctoral psychology and psychiatry interns— (1) to increase the quantity of patients served by the Indian tribes, tribal organizations, and other mental health care providers; and (2) for purposes of recruitment and retention.
The Secretary* shall carry out such activities as the Secretary determines to be necessary to encourage Indian tribes, tribal organizations, and other mental health care providers to obtain the services of predoctoral psychology and psychiatry interns—
to increase the quantity of patients served by the Indian tribes, tribal organizations, and other mental health care providers; and
for purposes of recruitment and retention.
