25 U.S.C. § 1679 — Eligibility of California Indians

(a) These California Indians are eligible for health services provided by the Service^*: (1) any member of a federally recognized tribe; (2) a descendant of an Indian living in California on June 1, 1852, if the descendant belongs to the Indian community served by a local Service program and that community regards the descendant as an Indian; (3) an Indian holding trust interests in California public-domain, national-forest, or reservation^* allotments; and (4) a California Indian^* listed in plans distributing assets of California rancherias and reservations under the Act of August 18, 1958, and any descendant of that Indian. (b) This section must not be read to expand California Indians’ eligibility beyond the eligibility that applied on May 1, 1986.
