The Secretary of the Interior can make and enforce rules to make sure Indian children who are wards of the government go to school regularly. This covers government-run schools for these children and public schools.
The Secretary* of the Interior is authorized to make and enforce rules and regulations. The purpose is to secure — ensure — the enrollment and regular attendance of "eligible Indian children who are wards of the Government." These rules can apply to two kinds of schools: schools the United States maintains specifically for these children's benefit, or public schools they attend instead. The section does not define which children count as "eligible" or as "wards of the Government" beyond this phrase.
The Secretary* of the Interior is authorized to make and enforce such rules and regulations as may be necessary to secure the enrollment and regular attendance of eligible Indian children who are wards of the Government in schools maintained for their benefit by the United States or in public schools.
