The Secretary of the Interior can charge timber buyers extra fees for special services they request, like scaling or marking timber, on Indian trust or restricted lands. Whatever the buyer pays goes back into the fund that paid for the special service.
This section lets the Secretary* charge timber buyers for extra services on Indian lands.
This applies to timber sold on Indian lands that the United States holds in trust, or that carries restrictions against being sold or mortgaged. If a buyer requests special services beyond what the Secretary normally provides — for example, scaling the timber or marking it — the Secretary of the Interior can charge the buyer for those services. Whatever money the buyer pays goes back into the same appropriation account that funded the special service.
The Secretary* of the Interior is authorized to charge purchasers of timber on Indian lands that are held by the United States in trust, or that are subject to restrictions against alienation or encumbrance imposed by the United States, for special services requested by the purchasers in connection with scaling, timber marking, or other activities under the contract of purchase that are in addition to the services otherwise provided by the Secretary, and the proceeds derived therefrom shall be deposited to the credit of the appropriation from which the special services were or will be provided.
