The Director of the Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts must publish a public report twice a year. It lists, for each judge, motions pending over six months, bench trials undecided over six months, and cases not finished within three years. All courts must use the same standard categories, set under section 481, when preparing these reports.
(a) The Director of the Administrative Office of the United States Courts must prepare a public report every six months. For each judicial officer*, the report must disclose: the number of motions that have been pending for more than six months, and the name of each case with such a motion; the number of bench trials that have been under submission for more than six months, and the name of each such case; and the number and names of cases not finished within three years after they were filed.
(b) To make sure these reports are consistent, courts must use the same standard categories for judicial actions, set under section 481 of this title, when preparing the report described in subsection (a).
The Director of the Administrative Office of the United States Courts shall prepare a semiannual report, available to the public, that discloses for each judicial officer*—
the number of motions that have been pending for more than six months and the name of each case in which such motion has been pending;
the number of bench trials that have been submitted for more than six months and the name of each case in which such trials are under submission; and
the number and names of cases that have not been terminated within three years after filing.
To ensure uniformity of reporting, the standards for categorization or characterization of judicial actions to be prescribed in accordance with section 481 of this title shall apply to the semiannual report prepared under subsection (a).
