The head of an executive department can ask the Attorney General for a legal opinion. This applies to questions of law that come up while running the department.
This section lets the head of an executive department* get legal advice from the Attorney General.
If a question of law comes up in the course of administering the department, the department head may require — meaning formally request — the opinion of the Attorney General on it. The section covers only questions of law arising in the administration of that department.
The head of an executive department* may require the opinion of the Attorney General on questions of law arising in the administration of his department.
