When an employer leaves a multiemployer plan, the plan sponsor must determine the employer's withdrawal liability. The sponsor must notify the employer and collect that amount.
When an employer withdraws from a multiemployer plan*, the plan sponsor must, following this part: (1) determine the employer's withdrawal liability; (2) notify the employer of that amount; and (3) collect it from the employer.
When an employer withdraws from a multiemployer plan*, the plan sponsor, in accordance with this part, shall—
determine the amount of the employer’s withdrawal liability,
notify the employer of the amount of the withdrawal liability, and
collect the amount of the withdrawal liability from the employer.
