3 U.S.C. § 11 — Transmission of certificates by electors

The electors must immediately send out the vote certificates they made, along with the attached certificates of ascertainment. They must use the fastest method available, and send all copies at the same time. (1) One set goes to the President of the Senate, at the seat of government. (2) Two sets go to the state's chief election officer. One of these stays available for the President of the Senate to request. The official keeps the other for one year, as part of the office's public records, open for the public to inspect. (3) Two sets go to the Archivist of the United States, at the seat of government. One stays available for the President of the Senate to request. The Archivist keeps the other for one year, as part of the public records, open for the public to inspect. (4) One set goes to the judge of the district where the electors met.
