30 U.S.C. § 16 — Research laboratory for utilization of anthracite coal; establishment of advisory committee; composition; functions; appointment

This section is a single, undivided provision. The Secretary of the Interior, acting through the U.S. Bureau of Mines, may — at the Secretary's discretion — create an advisory committee of no more than six members. This committee gives advice when the Secretary asks for it, in connection with running sections 13 through 16 of this title. The committee's membership must be split equally among three groups: representatives of anthracite coal mine owners, representatives of anthracite coal mine workers, and representatives of the public. The Secretary of the Interior appoints the committee's members, and doesn't have to follow the usual civil-service hiring laws to do it.
