This chapter's leasing rules also apply to coal, oil, gas, and similar mineral deposits on land the United States has given away, if the U.S. kept the right to prospect for, mine, and remove those deposits. Any conditions the original reservation law set — now or later — still apply.

This chapter's provisions also apply to deposits of coal, phosphate, sodium, oil, oil shale, gilsonite (including all vein-type solid hydrocarbons), or gas on U.S. lands that have been, or may be, given away under laws that reserved these deposits to the United States, along with the right to prospect for, mine, and remove them. These deposits remain subject to whatever conditions the reserving laws set, now or in the future.
