30 U.S.C. § 205Consolidation of leases

submitted 106 years ago by ch. 85 to r/title-30-MINERAL-LANDS-AND-MINING · 65 words · no verdicts yet

in plain englishAI-generated · not legal advice

Lessees can combine their leases into one if it serves the public interest. The Secretary of the Interior makes that call. They must surrender their old leases, and the new one can't exceed 2,560 acres.

This section lets lease holders combine, or "consolidate," their leases. The Secretary of the Interior must first judge that doing so serves the public interest. The lessees must be holding leases for areas that don't exceed the maximum size allowed under this chapter. To consolidate, they surrender their original leases, and those areas get folded into one new lease. That new, combined lease can't cover more than 2,560 acres of land that's all connected (contiguous).

If, in the judgment of the Secretary of the Interior, the public interest will be subserved thereby, lessees holding under lease areas not exceeding the maximum permitted under this chapter may consolidate their leases through the surrender of the original leases and the inclusion of such areas in a new lease of not to exceed two thousand five hundred and sixty acres of contiguous lands.
