This law lets the Interior Secretary grant permit or lease holders on sodium-deposit land extra use of nearby unoccupied nonmineral public land. That extra land — up to 40 acres — can be used for camp sites, refining works, and related purposes, for an annual rent of at least 25 cents per acre.
Besides the mineral land already included in a prospecting permit or lease, the Secretary of the Interior may, at his discretion, grant a permit or lease holder for lands containing sodium deposits an extra right. That right lets the holder exclusively use — for as long as the permit or lease lasts — a tract of unoccupied nonmineral public land, no bigger than 40 acres, for camp sites, refining works, and other purposes tied to properly developing and using the sodium deposits. The holder must pay an annual rent of at least 25 cents per acre for this extra land.
In addition to areas of such mineral land which may be included in any such prospecting permits or leases, the Secretary of the Interior, in his discretion, may grant to a permittee or lessee of lands containing sodium deposits, and subject to the payment of an annual rental of not less than 25 cents per acre, the exclusive right to use, during the life of the permit or lease, a tract of unoccupied nonmineral public land, not exceeding forty acres in area, for camp sites, refining works, and other purposes connected with and necessary to the proper development and use of the deposits covered by the permit or lease.
